English Language Challenges

I classmates! This is my last blog and I want to talk about my English Courses.

I took four English Courses with four different teachers. Everyone was very different, not only for teacher but also the methodology, and activities.

I think that in English I and English II, I learned so much because I don`t knew nothing… and in a year I learned to write! However, I didn`t learn a lot of vocabulary. The methodology of this courses was like at school: very childish but entertaining. I liked to sing in English I! hahaha.
English III was awesome! The teacher was young and very funny, that is why the conversation was very entertaining and the topics were more friendly/nearby.  Besides being with my friends, meant that English III were great. In this course I was able to speak English.

In English IV the methodology is very different. Although topics are the same, in this semester I have been able to write in English. I think that in this course I haven`t learn so much, but I have practiced to writing. That is the reason why I think that the blogs are very useful.

In general, I think that the vocabulary is an aspect of my English that I need to be improved. I hope start to read simples book in English, and watch English serial. Exactly this week a friend lent me “The Little Prince” (English version). This is my favorite book and I have read it many times. Actually I don`t use English. That is why I think that read books of literature, and watch serials are good ideas.

In spite of that the classes are good, I think that is very important to Anthropology (the career) have a special course of English because papers and important books are in English, and they use a biological and technical vocabulary that the wordbooks or translators don`t have.   

Good and Bad Points 2014

Hi bloggers! In this post I want to make a sort of evaluation of 2014.

Well… I think that my year has been good. During the first months of year I enjoyed so much the summer: I go to beach and mountain with my boyfriend, I go out with my friends, I celebrate my birthday, and I traveled with my family.

During the first semester, I worked and studied. That was tiring but I could learn so much. Besides, I make different research and so it was very interesting: I do research on a school that accepts Down's syndrome children. I also do research on the history of a train of “Cajón del Maipo” zone. In this work my boyfriend has companied me. Besides, I went to Socaire (in north of Chile) and San Gregorio (in center) for the University. These trips were very good!

In the first semester I don`t have so time, and I can`t see a lot my friends and my family, but I think that I enjoyed a lot.

During this semester, I have seen my friends and my father but I can`t have seen a lot my mother. Anyway I have continued with my research about Down’s syndrome children, and I trip again to San Gregorio for make a research about the work of women to this town. Besides, I have continued to participate in an organization of students of anthropology in the metropolitan region.

I think that I have had little time to see my family and my boyfriend. I think that I still can spend time with they :)

The end of gender?

This link tell that nowadays the gender is not useful to the social media because is a very restrictive label, and today the people escape of categories demographic box.
I think that is very important understand the category “gender” like a social constructions. That is, the gender is a product of the culture and so that`s why have an ideology and is possible to deconstruct it.  

Is really that nowadays the gender is different to in the old time, but is really too that in this time exist categories of gender that the society reproduce. That is obviously in the market, but all the time we are reproducing these categories: with clothes, language, our movements… all the time! Including the space is order to maintain these categories.

Sometimes we criticize other people (models, soccer players, etc.) because they wear or behave “like a girl”, for example. But we also wear and behave using the gender categories. We reproduce this restrictive label. All of us tell “gay” when a man behaves “like a girl”, and criticize when a women does not shave her leg. All these form of act are the application to gender categories, and that is why I think that the change is deeper that modify the publicity.

That is why I think that the exposition of the women of video is not useful: this only serves to market and bigger business… and these companies only going to use this information to change the mechanism to offer their products, and not to recognize and eliminate the oppression of the gender categories.  

Facebook!

Hi bloggers! In this post I talk about my relationship with Facebook.

Well… I check my profile all the time: in my mobile or my notebook. It is a fatal attraction! Yes! Sometimes I don`t can concentrate in my papers and I don`t can read. Therefore I have to switch off the computer and disconnect the wifi to study. I don`t have portable internet and this is a help. All day appear news notifications to events, photos, comments… and there are always something to see. Facebook is really a distraction.

I use the Facebook to upload photos, inform me to events and communicate to my friends. Besides, I can recorder easily the birthday to my friends. This is awesome because I ever forget the celebrations. I think that Facebook is very useful to recorder events, birthdays and other dates. I use it very much to I am informed to theater plays and cultural festivals: I can see the play, dates, theater, price and the different troupe. For example, a friend invite me to his theater play eventhough I don`t see him three months ago. So I find their work and I can see him.

I think that Facebook is very useful to calendar, but it not can replace the personal communication. Sometimes the people meet friends only to Facebook, or the people have a relation (with friends, or boy/girlfriends) without see them. I think that this is other negative aspects to Facebook.

Environmentally friendly practices

Hi bloggers! Today I want to talk about the environment and environmentally friendly practices. I think that in Santiago and Chile in general, the recycling and the use and consumption to Green products are very difficult. That is so because this products are very expansive and them don`t are reachable for the majority of the people.

In general, I use the bus in the city, but also I use the bike, especially in summer. I love the bike because is cheap and friendly with the environment. The problem is that in the city are not very bicycle parking and in some place is not permit put the bike in bars or in the inside of the restaurants or cinemas. Besides, the cars don’t respect the bike… is very difficult use the street! However, I prefer use the street to bicycling.

Besides to use the bike, I recycling in my house: we classify the litter in different trash can and a special garbage truck picks it. Also in my house we have a little vegetable garden and we consume this herbs and vegetables. I think that it is very important to Environment. Finally, I consider important use rationally the water using only the necessary.

I consider me a green person, but I know that is so much what I must do… and especially that the government and big business must do to protect the environment.

My future job

Hi classmates! Hi teacher! In this post I want to talk about my future: well… I would like to continue studying. I want to make a master about Cultural Management in this University or in other country. I think that Spain or Italy are a good idea… although England and Germany are awesome!

I love the theater and scenic arts in general, that is why I want to dedicate to Cultural Management. I want produce and gestate theater plays, work in a theatre or for a troupe.  Therefore, I don`t know if I like to work outdoors or indoors… I want to go where my troupe or my theater is. But I don`t like the office job: I can be in an office, but not all the time. I also want to be behind the scenes, in the lobby of the theater, in the bus whit the troupe and on public applauding. Much of my future work deserves to be front of a computer designing projects, in many meetings and offices. But that does not bother me.

In Chile the Cultural Management is incipient still: there are not many Universities that offer this master, and the matter is not sufficiently developed like in other countries. It is for that reason that I would like study in other country as Spain or Germany. I hope to achieve it!

My favorite writer

Hi classmates! In this post I must talk about my favorite writer but I don`t have a favorite writer, because I don`t like read.

The people don`t understand me and always they ask me how I study Anthropology. Well… I always reply that for the university I read so much, but does not mean that I like read. I`m a responsible person, but I don’t read for pleasure.

In my free time I never read: novels, or books, or essays… nothing. I hate the poetry and the novels bores me. When I finish my academic year I quit papers, books and  photocopies; and enjoy my holidays away from the reading. In that moment, I`m so happy.

When I`m a school student I hate de books. Now, I don`t hate, but I don`t like. I can read an article or a research for pleasure, but I don`t read a complete novels. In fact, my boyfriend give me a book of hundred pages for my birthday (in January), and I have even read only fifty. I`m sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well… I know that for most of you this situation is incredible, horrible and insupportable... but until now I survived university, this career, and life.

A career -related article or video

Hi classmates! In this class I want to show you this video: this is a selk`nam myth about the origin of the world.

The story tells that Kenos created the word: he was a Howenh (a ancestor) that was sent by Timaukel organize the selk`nam territory. Kenos created the sun, the moon and the selk`nam people. The video shows a story to explain the existence of the birds, the hills, the cascades, the stars and the planets.

I like this video because is very nice, clear and informative. I think that is very important know the selk`nam history and myth, because much of this culture has been lost and it`s fundamental for the people that actually live in Tierra del Fuego, and the south of Chile in general.

I think that make videos like this, help spread the story and the tradition selk`nam; and the anthropologists should know how spread the knowledge. Always teach us to investigate but never teach us to spread or use that knowledge,  or work with non-scientific communities.

The best holidays!

Hello classmates! Today I want to talk about my best holidays! I don`t know who is my favorite trip, but I talk about the last: Salvador de Bahía, Brasil!

In march of the 2014 I traveled with my mom and my sister to Brasil: during 6 days we meet Salvador, a city located in the north to Brasil. This is a very impresionant place because the history about the africans immigrants is aweosome! The culture is very rich. In the same way the colonial buildings are monumental: In Salvador there are many churches, and some of them are coated in gold.

Besides, near of Salvador there are many beaches: Itaparica, a island located in the “Baía de Todos os Santos”; and the norther beaches like “Praia do Forte”, where is located the Forte Jefferson and the Tamar Proyect (a center of study and protect the turtles)

The culture, the buildings, the women, the beach, the hills and all the history of Salvador de Bahia are spectacular… this is a very place and this trip is one of my favorites holidays.

A country you´d like to visit

Hello! Well… I like to travel very much and know new places. I would like to know England because this is a very interesting country! I want visit the the Big Ben and the museums. Besides I want appreciate the architecture. Is beautiful! 

I don`t know so much about England but I know that the art in England is awesome because the industry of the art is bigger of Chile. I like the scenic arts and I like learn about the cultural gestion. So that`s why I think that in England I and my boyfriend could study our Master. He could study and know the Emirates Stadium: this is the stadium of the Arsenal (his favorite team). I could visit the galleries and the theater in London, as long as he could go to the stadium. Great idea! 

Two friends pretend travel to England for study the last year. I think that us could travel in three years and visit to my friends :)

Good and bad points of this semester

Hello! This is my last publication in this blog. Today I want talk about my autumn semester: the good and bad points, and my proyects from the next semester.

Well, I think that this semester has been ok, because I studied only five subjects, I didn't have to read that much, and I had very much research. This meant a lot of traveling to different places and meeting new people. I This semester I learned to much.

However, to travel and know I needed money. This semester I studied and worked. Even if I know new people, I had to get up at 6 am every Sunday. Besides, the travels, researchs and my job took up a lot of my time.

From spring semester I want work to but I don`t want get up at 6 am. I also want to make a lot of research and know new institutions and places. However, I hope have more time to spend with my family, my friends, and of course with my boyfriend. 

How green are you?

I think that the people learn about environmentally practices by the school, tv and private organizations. Y think that the government don’t generate enough politics about this, and the people don’t learn a lot by this politics.

Well... I incorporated recycling in my habits: in my house we have a container by the glass, paper, cardboard, some plastics and tetra pak. Also we have a little vegetable garden.

Usually I use the bus, but I also use a bike: the name of my bike is Juan Pablo, and it is my partner <3 . My bike is a “mini-cic” and is very slow and heavy. That is why I don’t use the bike daily.

I don’t joined or supported any eco-organizations but I know many bike-organizations.

I would like have a compost in my house: we throw many organics rests in my house ¡and we have a garden! But my mom don’t like the compost.

The perfect song!

Hi! I´m going to talk about the perfect song for me. The song is really a cantata: “Cantata Santa Maria de Iquique” by Luis Advis. Originally this cantata was to play by Quilapayun, but although Quilapayun play to cantata yet, a lot of bands have interpreted this song.

“Cantata Santa Maria de Iquique” relate the story of the killing in 1907 of saltpeter miner in north of Chile. First, the cantata have a introduction and explain the topic. Later, the cantata present the hard job by to the miner in the desert of Atacama: the miner song while work in the mine. In the next part, a narrator explain the first strikes, the union organization, and the decision to travel through the desert to Iquique.

In the next song the miners encourage their wives and they say to them that the city is very nice. In this part it is understood that the travel was very hard. This is my favorite part.

The families of the miners were installed in the Santa María School, in Iquique. During the next song the miners explain that some residents of Iquique supported them and others not. This part is very little but is very important.

Later, a song is a story of a miner: “something terrible will happen”. In this moment this miner recorder all his life. Thereafter, a story narrate the conversations between the miners and the general Roberto Silva Renard.

Later of this story, two song talk about all those who died in the school: three thousand six hundred persons died.  Also, the song promise the revenge. This is the climax of the all cantata.

Finally, the song tells listeners that they should not forget the story. This part is a invitation to fight for our rights.

Well… I love this cantata because I think that is a very good way to communicate historical facts, recorder the workers killing and promote the fight for our rights. I think that the art should have always this character. I and my friends always sing this cantata.

About the march of the nationalization of water.

Well… I think that the management water should are from the state of Chile.

I think that all natural resources are public and all the people should have access to them. The State should is the administer to all the natural resources: water, minerals, etc. And therefore I agree with the nationalization of water.

Besides, I think that the companies don`t understand the logic of the indigenous communities, and therefore they don`t consider them. The indigenous communities have a different connection with nature and the natural resources are part of themselves and their world. If firms don`t understand that and the State does nothing about it, the conflicts will continue.

So that`s why I agree whit march and the demands, but I think that the solution is not in a law or a modification of regulation. I think that the conception of the natural resources and the right of the indigenous communities must change.

The best book

Well… From me is easy choose the best book I have ever read, because I read not much.

My favorite book is “The Little Prince”, by Antoine De Saint-Exupery. This is a French author and pilot and he published this book in 1946 (postwar).

“The Little Prince” narrate the story of a kind that live in other planet with a flower. A day, the prince decide visit several planets and meet various adults: a drunk, a mathematician, a king, etc. They all seem to him very decadent.

When the little prince arrive to Earth, he meet a fox and they become friends. Later, the little prince meet a pilot and he tells his story. The pilot is a adult and he don´t understand the life and the important thing of the prince. In this moment the little prince is angry and teach his important lessons.

I love “The Little Prince” because it criticise the adults and the important things from they. I think that it is a critical to modern and capitalist life.

A picture to remember

Well.. I love this picture because it recorder me about my holidays.

The last summer, my boyfriend and me went to the “Rio Clarillo”. It is a national reserve of the Región Metropolitana of Chile, and it is located 45 km from Santiago.
We woke up at 9 am and prepared all from ours outing: sandwich, drink, swimsuit, etc. Later, we went to Puente Alto and there we took a bus... a fast bus: we almost died!!
When we arrived to nacional reserve, we waited a car and two men took to us to river.

There, we had lunch ours sandwich, slept, and swam in the river. This place is beautiful: the mountain, the river, the trees… it´s great! We stayed all day at Río Clarillo and returned at 6 pm.

A perfect day!!!

A band that I love but nobody knows

The band that I`m going to talk is “Duo Zarpaos”.

Duo Zarpaos is a chilean duet and it`s formed by Patricio Vega and Andrés Cisternas. They are young`s musician and play folk music.

Patricio and Andrés studied Music at Universidad de Chile and nowadays everyone works independently. They met at University and formed “Duo Zarpaos” in 2010.

They use the guitar and the “tiple” principally. The “tiple” is a colombian instrument and is similar to a little guitar.

I like their songs because they remember me the music of Victor Jara, Santiago del Nuevo Extremo, and others.

I listen “Duo Zarpaos” when I study and Sundays while I ride a bike. I have all of their songs in my ipod…  I really like it!

My favorite piece of technology!

Ohhh yes… My favorite piece of technology is MY NOTEBOOK! Yeeeah!

I love it because my mom gave it to me for my birthday.

I can make all with it: I can communicate me with my friends and my family, I can make my reports for the University and the job, I can also design the poster for my student organization, and finally I can check my web pages. 

The positive characteristics for my notebook are: it is light, small and very very fast. That is great!

But the negative aspect for my notebook is that it gets overheated. For that reason, I avoid to leave it on the sofa or bed.

Well… I think that I am addicted to my notebook… I spend a lot time using it :(

My expectations for a new semester

Hi! This is my expectations, plans and wishes for a new semester!!

I want to do well in University. I have six subjects and I want get good marks in all.

Also I want continue in my work because this is a good work. I must work Sundays only! Besides I need this money because on the last summer I will travel to Colombia.

In my free time I want go to theater a lot and visit more my friends. Also I spend more time with my sister because today she came back to Chile from Italy.

Finally, I wish continue to my boyfriend and I hope to have time for see him.

My auto-biography

Hi! 

I am Jacinta, but my nickname is Ja. I´m twenty two years old, and I´m from Santiago and live in Ñuñoa.

I studied at Liceo Manuel de Salas. Later, y studied Quiromasaje Profesional and after Bachillerato. Now, I study Social Anthropology in the Universidad de Chile.

I like go to the theater, water my garden and visit my friends. When I am on holidays, I can see many play; but when i have class i can´t do.

Also, i like go out with my boyfriend. He´s name is Anthony, and he study Psychology at the university myself.

I live with my mother, my mom´s name is Loreto and she is fifty three years old. She is event´s producer. I live to with my sister. She is Florencia and she study Architecture. Actually she is studying in Venice.

In my home live to Dominga. She is my dog and ¡is beautiful! But she dislike play but is very boring. Dominga is seven years old.

One of my dream is to travel a lot and visit many cultures. Also I have other dreams: I want have a own theater and a vegetable garden. I want water my garden all days and eat those vegetables.
